Call to the Beach
Lord of the oceans, Lord of the tides:
We thank you for sandy beaches and rocky shores,
For marshes, wetlands, harbors and ships,
For crabs, mussels, driftwood and things in the sand…
For the steady rhythms of the waves breaking to shore…
We thank you for the sight of the vast salty sea!
Lord of the oceans, Lord of the tides:
Here at our favorite summer beaches
Your Word has a different sound,
Your Spirit can roam freely in our souls,
Your creation can be re-created in us.
We thank you for the restoration of our souls!
Lord of the oceans, Lord of the tides:
You bring waves as tall as houses,
You bring storms that no one can resist,
And riptides with treacherous force.
Yet at times the sea is as gentle and lovely
As a hidden lake, a peaceful invitation.
All of it as mysterious as life itself.
We have nothing but respect for the work of your hands!
