The Quote:

“To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time.”

– Leonard Bernstein

Wisdom from Scripture:

Psalm 143: 8

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”

Acts 13: 1-3

“Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”

Comment: Truly, sometimes the best things happen when we don’t have quite enough time because it forces us to pay more attention to what’s essential and truly important. It does not negate the importance of thoughtful preparation. The apostles spent time in prayer and preparation, but they were not given much time before they embarked on the first ever Christian mission journey.

Prayer:

Holy God: lead us on your path. We trust in your guidance and we dedicate our lives to you. What we do, let it be thoughtful and purpose driven; let us use the gifts of planning and organization that you have given us. But also, keep us from the curse of overthinking and over-analyzing. With psalm 143 we pray: show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” Amen.
