The Quote:

All the truly deep people have at the core of their being the genius to be simple or to know how to seek simplicity.” – Martin E. Marty

 Wisdom from Scripture:

  1. Corinthians 1: 12-14 (ESV)

“For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity[c] and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you. 13 For we are not writing to you anything other than what you read and understand and I hope you will fully understand— 14 just as you did partially understand us—that on the day of our Lord Jesus you will boast of us as we will boast of you.”

Luke 10: 25-28

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”  26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[c]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

Prayer:

God, help us to live simply and truthfully, with our hearts aligned to you. During this Holy Week, weed out the distractions, purify our intentions and bless our lives, plain and simple. Be with those who are going through tumult and confusion in their lives and bring them back, time and again, to what really matters most, in Jesus’ name we pray.

Amen.
