Good Shepherd Call To Worship

Good Shepherd Call to Worship

This Call to Worship was written for Good Shepherd Sunday. The first line from psalm 23 is the congregation’s response throughout. The leader brings up different challenges to the ideal of trust-full reliance on God, such as the world we live in and experience in sometimes terrifying ways; and our tendencies to value independence over dependence of any kind.

L: This morning we come to celebrate the Good Shepherd.

C: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

L: The beginning of faith is trust. Our trust in this world is shaken every week – through terror, accidents, and natural disasters. In the middle of all this, we put our trust in God.

C: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

L: In this world, we don’t like to be sheep. We want to be independent; we want to lead our lives.  But we are all dependent in some way. We need to put our trust in God.

C: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

L: As we receive the care and wisdom of Christ our shepherd, we give back to those who need our caring support.

C: Amen.
